Today, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stays with a working visit in Lviv region. He appeared in a live television broadcast in Radio Nezalezhnist Radio Station and called on the Lviv officials not to be afraid to speak Ukrainian.
"The parliamentary opposition will exert every effort to protect the fundamental values of the Ukrainian State", - M.Tomenko stated. He stressed that it is impossible to adopt the Bill to restrict the use of the Ukrainian language. M.Tomenko assured that the BYuT would not support such a bill. "I am convinced that "Our Ukraine" will not endorse such a resolution either; everything depends on the stand of the Lytvyn bloc that has always defended the statehood of Ukrainian language", - he stated. "Thus, the clause on languages of the Constitution of Ukraine shall not be amended. I doubt that the language policy will be changed in the result of adoption of corresponding Laws", - the Deputy Chairman summed up.
The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that "on the one hand, the encroachment upon Ukrainian values shall be suspended, on the other hand the resignation of standpoints shall cease". Thus, M.Tomenko stated that he was surprised by the fact that Lviv officials spoke Russian, while reporting to the governmental delegation in charge of preparation for the European Football Champioship-2012.
M.Tomenko will also hold a press conference in the office of Zaxid.net internet newspaper. In the afternoon, the Deputy Chairman will meet the directors of regional nursery schools and present the CDs "An Audio Book for Ukrainian Children".
